I find that really learning something new is very motivating for me. I taught myself computer programming with very little help from anyone. I had written a program in basic and was given a copy of Turbo Pascal and I learned that language by myself. It is very gratifying to me to be able to do something like that. It really doesn’t make me any money, but in the long run it is truly beneficial to my career. I also learned to be a Pick programmer which made me able to become a System Administrator for a reputable sporting goods company.
Is doing something like this motivating for you? Then I would call you a self-motivated person. You do not have to have someone push or prod you to do something; you do it on your own without any instruction. This type of motivation is very invigorating for me. When you finish with this type of project you feel as if you could conquer the world. I really enjoy this feeling of accomplishment.
I have found that if I can break down a large job into small jobs or projects, I seem to get the feeling of accomplishment which keeps me going until the overall project is completed. I think that you need stimulus to keep working on a large project. This is the only way that I have been able to accomplish large projects with any feeling of success.
I’m not sure that this works for everyone, but it seems as if it should. Have you tried to do this type of departmentalizing a project? I think if you try it, it will make your job or chore much more interesting and fun. What motivates you? Is it your own self pride, money, or what? Whatever it is mankind cannot survive without motivation. So let us get motivated, okay?
